My favourite herbs for stress relief

A lot of people are on permanent alert due to the stress of the modern world. We need to find alternatives to soothe the nervous system so the body will perceive that we are in a non-dangerous place. Doing that periodically will help you with sleep, with enjoyment of life, appreciation and also with less overall inflammation. Today I am bringing you some herbs that I use during “me” time. I also have seen how my clients have benefited by adding these options to their everyday life.

Many of these herbs are adaptogens, which are types of herbs and compounds that help you adapt to external factors affecting your mental and physical health.

1-   Lavender: Helps to calm your nervous system, reduce anxiety and help with sleep. You can use it as an essential oil, as a spray in your bedroom, or a diffuser in your home

2-   Ashwagandha: It is an adaptogenic herb and it is used to help your adrenal glands deal with stress responses, it reduces inflammation, helps with anxiety and stabilizes blood sugar levels.

3-   Maca: Another adaptogenic root originally from Peru. Maca is great for hormonal support especially during menopause and hot flashes. It also improves energy levels, it is rich in Vitamin C and helps with endurance

4-   Chamomile: I love a good chamomile tea after my meals. Chamomile helps with digestion, reduces anxiety, helps to initiate sleep and it is a wonderful antioxidant.

5-   Panax Ginseng: Widely used in traditional Chinese medicine TCM. It reduces fatigue, stimulates mental activity and it has anti-inflammatory effects.

Ideally, adding herbs to your routine should be paired with a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, less processed and sugary foods and of course movement and exercise even if you feel you are trapped inside your home. There are many ways on how to take these herbs and many others. You can make teas, take them as part of your supplementation routine and even add them to your meals. Make sure you research edible herbs before you act on this choice.

I know it can be hard to be motivated these days, but keep in mind it is better to do something for your body now, instead of fixing many issues later in life
