Is your health and exercise routine broken?
Hello! I am checking on you and bringing positive ideas easy to implement :)
For most of us, experiencing the appearance of Covid19 and dealing with all the changes in our life have been detrimental in one way or another to our routines.
We used to have systems to make things happen: Grocery shopping, taking the kids to school, going to our favorite exercise class, going to school, driving to the office, etc. activities that worked in one way or another.
Then, the system got disrupted and now you don’t have to wake up early, you are not exercising as much, you are snacking all day long, you are watching Netflix all day, you might be drinking too much wine, you are not feeling good emotionally and many other things. Being worried and frustrated might be part of the daily picture and stress might be in your system as a silent partner…
Most people know that stress activates the emotional fight-flight-freeze part of the brain. But it also, shuts down the thinking-planning-decision-making prefrontal cortex, making it harder to keep our priorities up and instead, our emotion-driven reflexes take over.
If your daily habits (something that you do daily without thinking about it) have also been shaken, your internal support system is affected as well. But you don’t need to despair. Things are changing and eventually we will go out again and continue with life the way it works for us.
However, in the meantime focus on systems that make you prioritize what you want and let go of systems that are not needed for now
Think about alternatives to keep you active, eating nutritious foods, get restful sleep, and release some stress as well.
Here are 4 easy steps you can take to recreate some routine:
Daily Schedule: Find 1 or 2 activities you can do at the same time every day. It could be your meals, a Pilates or Yoga class, a walk in the neighborhood or something meaningful for you
Planning: Create a 2 weeks meal plan or detox challenge where you need to buy ingredients, have recipes set and organize the timing so you can be on track and accountable
Reminders: Set your phone alarm or place sticky notes around the house, to make things easier so you don’t forget something you want to do and to avoid feeling discouraged if you skip it
Support: Organize a zoom or Skype call with a friend or family member you love to talk to for accountability, help or simply to connect. You could also be part of weekly group meetings to empower you, or a book club or a new learning activity.
How do you know if the new systems will work? You need to try!! And make adjustments as necessary.
It is important to do self-care things during the chaos and enjoy the little things you didn’t notice before. Practice stretches at a time and limit exposure to media that triggers your stress response
Remember, this situation will pass and you want to transition to your regular life in a healthy and non-pressured way by applying the systems that work for you and your family.
